While reading a Thousand Splendid Suns I was entertained and could not put the book down. One of the reasons I was very interested in the book was because it dealt with a culture that I wasn't very familiar with. Being exposed to A Thousand Splendid Suns I have been inspired to learn more about the Muslim culture.
What struck me the most was the scene about 9/11. When 9/11 happened the media showed people of the Middle East celebrating as they burned American flags. I'm sure people at the time were inflamed with anger. However theses videos were not taken during 9/11/2001 but were rather taken months before 9/11.
For years now, the media and other outlets have spread propaganda about the Middle East making them seems as if all of them were involved in the 9/11 attack. During his State of the Union address, then President George W. Bush told the United States and the world that America was not or will ever be at war with Islam bur that America was at work with the group that had caused the United States pain, Al Qaeda.
During that scene, it showed what many people in the Middle East felt that day. They felt the pain that Americans felt that day, however those were not the images that were shown in the media which is a shame. We must never forget the words of President Bush. The actions of a few should not represent an entire group of people.
